There are many possible solutions that can help your son or daughter kick the habit of bedwetting. Although some therapists and psychologists believe that there is the possibility it can be cured through a simple redirection and support, there is also the medical consideration that bedwetting has more to do with a physical problem than something emotional or in the mind.

A common remedy that is used by many parents are electronic sensor underwear that are designed to detect the slightest amount of moisture in their pants which will then send an electronic signal to an alarm which will wake the child up so they can run to the bathroom. Although this has been proven to be effective, it can also be psychologically damaging if the child has siblings that hear this alarm go off on a nightly basis.

Homeopathic remedies have often been used to regulate the amount of water that is allocated to the bladder. Although this can be subdued by drinking prior to going to sleep, it can also help regulate hormonal and emotional levels that may be affecting their ability to wake up and they need to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night.

One of the things that is useful is setting up a pattern. For instance, one thing that we used to do was wake up our child a few hours after they had gone to sleep. By doing so, this set a routine in their minds that they should wake up if they feel the need to urinate. This worked with a couple of our children but not all of them.

Sometimes a child is born with a smaller bladder. It would not matter that they are able to regulate themselves. It may have to be done several times that night especially if they have drank too much prior to going to sleep. The best solution that we found was making sure that our daughter was unable to drink anything an hour before bedtime. We then allowed her to have a few sips of water prior to going to sleep to make sure she was not thinking about getting a drink or being thirsty.

By doing this, we were able to cover to specific areas. We were able to regulate the amount of water that she drank which lowered the risk of her needing to go to the bathroom. It also was psychologically soothing knowing that she would not be thirsty by allowing her to have a small drink by her bed thereby relaxing her and allowing her to go to sleep without the worry of having to get a drink.

Finally, there is very conclusive proof that emotionally debilitated situations such as divorce or constant fighting within the household will create an emotional situation of nervousness within your children, especially the ones that have a bedwetting problem. If the parents truly care about their children and their well-being, they will try to find help such as family counseling to eliminate or reduce the arguing within the household or try to go to a marriage counselor to fix a failing marriage.

Bedwetting is not a disease or something contagious. It is the result of many possible factors that can be both physical and psychological. By being supportive and loving to your children that are suffering with this particular disorder, you will help them conquer this problem in a much shorter period of time.
